UFC Betting – Overeem, Lesnar On Collision Course At UFC 141

UFC fans should be including UFC 141 in their plans around New Year’s, and there is a massive main event on the horizon as Alistair Overeem finally makes his UFC debut against former heavyweight champ Brock Lesnar, with a shot at Junior Dos Santos on the line.

Overeem Lesnar Odds – Friday, December 30th, 8:00 PM ET

“The Reem” (35-11, 1 NC) has a fantastic resume which features belts in Strikeforce, Dream and K-1, and he is the only man to hold MMA and kickboxing belts at the same time. Those who use price per head companies know that Overeem is one of the best strikers in the world, but he is also a world-class submission grappler who knows what to do if he goes to the mat.

Lesnar (5-2) lost the belt to Cain Velasquez last October and then fell very ill, so this will be his first time in the octagon in around 14 months. There may not be a man in the UFC that has his mix of athleticism and size, but Lesnar still shows holes when it comes to being a mixed martial artist. He’ll want to use his incredible wrestling to take Overeem to the mat.

That is the key to this fight, which has Overeem favored at -160 and Lesnar at +140; if Overeem keeps this standing up, he wins in a rout. If Lesnar can take him down, however, he could be in some trouble has Lesnar has very good top control. We’re going with experience and sticking with Alistair Overeem at our betting sites.

UFC Betting – Maynard Gets Another Shot At Edgar This Saturday

How ironic it was that a fight on an event given its title for the “Resolution” it was supposed to lead to on New Years Day still hasn’t been resolved. 10 months after UFC Lightweight champion Frankie Edgar retained his title belt after fighting to a draw with No. 1 contender Gray Maynard, the two are set to meet again for a third time at UFC 136: Edgar vs. Maynard III this Saturday at the Toyota Center in Houston. While UFC President Dana White has done a good job of putting together a decent card that includes a UFC Featherweight title fight between champion Jose Aldo and Kenny Florian, it is the main event that will have sports betting fans around the world tuning in.

Some will be hoping that the third time is the charm for the reigning champion, who is 0-1-1 in his career against Maynard. Some felt as though the challenger deserved the belt for his pay per head efforts at UFC 125, a fight that the judge’s ruled a split-decision draw, something that rarely happens in MMA. But even though he was disappointed in not getting the chance to hold the title, Maynard has to be pleased with the fact that he will get another sports betting bonus shot. While Melvin Guillard, Clay Guida, and a number of other lightweights line up for their chance to get a shot at the title, all eyes will be on the main event at UFC 136 to see who emerges as the champion.

UFC 129 Preview: St. Pierre Vs. Shields

Online sports betting players are always interested in seeing Georges St. Pierre fight. Still, many fans and pundits are questioning how competitive a fight with Jake Shields will actually be at UFC 129 Preview: St. Pierre vs. Shields

A main event featuring Montreal-based hero Georges St. Pierre and Caesar Gracie grappling phenom Jake Shields will headline the UFC's first ever show in Toronto, Ontario, probably North America's Mecca for mixed martial arts. Fans are wondering if St. Pierre finally has a challenger that can threaten his reign.

Sports betting players know that calling Shields' striking rudimentary is probably being complimentary and over-stating things. In fights against powerful wrestlers Matt Hughes and Josh Koscheck, GSP showed remarkable takedown defense, and when Koscheck could take him down, he couldn't keep him down at all.

If Shields can't get this fight to the ground and keep it there, he's going to suffer a similar fate as Koscheck. Still, permanent damage may be avoided if St. Pierre can actually finish Shields. UFC betting fans should also not be surprised to see St. Pierre submit Shields here.

Assuming St. Pierre does win this fight, a superfight with Anderson Silva still looms on the horizon. St. Pierre has indicated that if he does move up to middleweight, the move will be permanent, as it will require him to add a considerable amount of bulk to his frame. While sports wagering sites are largely divided on whether or not this fight will actually take place, the interest from fans is certainly there. Assuming St. Pierre does get the win over Shields at UFC 129, we may see an interesting in-cage announcement after the fact.

UFC 128 Undercard After Thoughts

Jon Jones gave sports betting players and UFC fans the kind of performance and statement we rarely see in combat sports. Jones not only bested Mauricio "Shogun" Rua in the main event of the evening, he unleashed a completely one-sided beatdown that sent a message to fighters and fans alike everywhere.

But Jones' performance wasn't the only one of note from Saturday. "New Breed" Erik Koch opened the night with a stunning and brutal knockout of Raphael Assuncao in the opening round of their bantamweight bout. Koch waited patiently before unleashing a short right hook and dashing any hopes Assuncao had about making a successful UFC debut. The knockout netted "New Breed" a knockout of the night bonus in the amount of $70,000, and post fight interviews indicate he'll use that money to pay off some medical expenses and finally upgrade the Hyundai Elantra he currently drives. Koch's impressive debut is another in a string of WEC transplants to quickly find their footing in the Octagon.

Meanwhile, UFC betting players saw some familiar controversy in the form of questionable judging, as Gleison Tibau took a highly contested split decision over Kurt Pellegrino in their lightweight tilt. The much larger Tibau was hurt multiple times by Pellegrino and out worked in the grappling department for much of their fight. Many of those in the press scored the fight for Pellegrino, but it was a competitive fight overall.

Finally, Team Alpha Male product Joseph Benavidez survived some tense moments in the opening round of his match with Ian Loveland. Loveland pressured the much shorter Benavidez, who had trouble finding his range initially. That wouldn't last, however, as Jo-B-One Kanobi controlled the last two stanzas to win a unanimous decision.

UFC 128: Shogun Vs. Jones Preview and Analysis

UFC 128 will see a light heavyweight battle for the ages go down, as champion Mauricio "Shogun" Rua will lock horns with the fast rising Jon "Bones" Jones.

Jones has looked unstoppable in his run in the UFC thus far. The Greg Jackson product has cut a swath of destruction through the light heavyweight division with little regard for his opponent's skills, reputation, or experience. A twist of fate means that Jones gets the opportunity to face current champ Mauricio "Shogun" Rua, sooner than he would have anticipated. Jones' training partner, Rashad Evans, originally tabbed to face Rua, suffered a knee injury in training and was forced to withdraw from the March 19 bout.

Despite the large disparity in experience, sports betting fans know that Jones is the smart pick here. While Jones is young, he is a rare talent and has shaped his formerly wild and unrefined style into a more calculated, methodical attack. Unrelenting in his aggression, Jones will be a huge challenge for Shogun as he steps back in the cage after a third acl reconstruction.

Online sports betting fans know that victory is not assured for Jones here, however. Shogun's level of Brazilian Jiu Jitsu will be much for Jones to contend with. If he makes the kind of rudimentary mistakes he has in previous fights against Brandon Vera and Andre Gusmao, Shogun can absolutely take his arm. Still, momentum is on Jones' side, and unless you can clearly forecast how a Shogun upset will play out, Jones is the smart pick here.
