UFC fans should be including UFC 141 in their plans around New Year’s, and there is a massive main event on the horizon as Alistair Overeem finally makes his UFC debut against former heavyweight champ Brock Lesnar, with a shot at Junior Dos Santos on the line.
Overeem Lesnar Odds – Friday, December 30th, 8:00 PM ET
“The Reem” (35-11, 1 NC) has a fantastic resume which features belts in Strikeforce, Dream and K-1, and he is the only man to hold MMA and kickboxing belts at the same time. Those who use price per head companies know that Overeem is one of the best strikers in the world, but he is also a world-class submission grappler who knows what to do if he goes to the mat.
Lesnar (5-2) lost the belt to Cain Velasquez last October and then fell very ill, so this will be his first time in the octagon in around 14 months. There may not be a man in the UFC that has his mix of athleticism and size, but Lesnar still shows holes when it comes to being a mixed martial artist. He’ll want to use his incredible wrestling to take Overeem to the mat.
That is the key to this fight, which has Overeem favored at -160 and Lesnar at +140; if Overeem keeps this standing up, he wins in a rout. If Lesnar can take him down, however, he could be in some trouble has Lesnar has very good top control. We’re going with experience and sticking with Alistair Overeem at our betting sites.
