Recently, Breeders Cup betting players have had to check out the fillies lining up in the Breeders Cup Classic, which is the centerpiece of the 15-race program, as Zenyatta has represented for the ladies over the last couple of years. Can Havre De Grace run with the big boys in 2011?
Havre De Grace was bred in Kentucky, and in 14 career races, she has never finished lower than third in any race. In 2011, Havre De Grace has five first-place finishes and a second-place result, although the second-place came in the Grade-2 Delaware Handicap, a 1 ¼-mile race that shares the same distance as the Breeders Cup Classic. As of right now, Havre De Grace is rated at +550 according to price per head odds when it comes to Breeders Cup betting, and she has reportedly looked very good in her training at Keeneland, where she is preparing for the Classic.
She returns to Churchill Downs, where she finished third in last year’s Breeders Cup Ladies Classic, and she should stomp to the win in that event last season. But the Classic is the race that will put her up with the legendary Zenyatta, who won the 2008 Ladies Classic, along with the 2009 Classic and she suffered her first and only loss in last year’s Classic. No one will put her up there with Zenyatta, one of the greatest horses of all time, but Havre De Grace can definitely put up a good fight in the Classic and is worth a look, even by MLB fans.
